Jo Geenen captures the changing sky in its never-ending variety of color and form or the peaceful settings in a garden, landscape or seascape. These portray the sense of contemplation and serenity Jo feels when gathering reference material for use in her studio. The lakes and harbors found in her travels throughout the US, the skies over Hawaii, and the memories of her mother’s garden help Jo use the pastel medium to great advantage.

With more than 30 years of artistic experience in the study and use of oils, watercolors and acrylics, she has chosen pastels because she finds they allow her to depict the feeling of light and place with greatest effect.  The pure colors and ease in build-up and blending to create both drama and serenity are the joy expressed in each of her works.

An award winning, self-directed artist, Jo has been very involved in the arts community.  She has been a member of the Art Center Gallery, Appleton, WI.  She was also responsible for founding an art critique group and has arranged group gallery shows.  Her work has been displayed at various art galleries and hangs in a number of private and corporate collections across the Midwest.
